Exiting the car I could immediately hear the sound. At first I almost didn’t believe it. Maybe it is just the wind rustling “so the trees can dance.” (Wesley age 3) Walking closer to the picnic table I could hear the slight gurgling become louder. No, this was not just wind. Rather, it was water swiftly running over rocks, meandering its way down to the lake.
Living in a dry and parched state where drought is far more common than rain, hearing water is rare. It is a gift. My soul, being is filled with light and joy. If these powerful characteristics have a sound, it must be the sound of a rushing creek.
Peace enters my spirit as I stand and listen. I marvel at the sound and the beauty of God’s creation. Here all is as it should be, as it was designed.
Soon there will be teenage girls arriving. We will celebrate a milestone birthday as our daughter turns sixteen. Laughter will no doubt ring out louder than the water. That too is just how it should be, how we were designed. To join together and be light to each other.
