I used to think the Bible was a series of really neat stories all packaged neatly together in one big book. I love the story of Noah because it had a rainbow. I loved the story of David because he was brave. I loved the stories of Jesus because He was so kind. In fact, my Bible had a picture of Him surrounded by little children and I loved the idea of someone loving little kids like me.
It took me many years to realize that while they are stories they are also truth. They weren’t just fun little stories to make people feel better. Rather they were stories about a God who created and loved His people. They were stories about real people who faced real problems and went to a real God for help in solving them.
I am grateful that God chose to have people write down His stories and the stories of His people. When I read the Bible I am able to glean more about God’s character and His love and sacrifices for His people. For me. I still love rainbows and I still think David was brave but the God who created both far more incredible than either of those stories.
