On the first day of October, Bailey wore her Halloween tights and bat shirt to celebrate the coming of Halloween month. She invests a large amount of time planning and preparing her costume each year. Even more significant, however, is the fact that it is also the month of her birth. She starts planning her party months before the actual event and has every detail imaginable thought through before the month arrives. One of the essential pieces of the party are the invitations. We haven’t bought invitations in years because she diligently handcrafts each one. Often, they contain specific details for each individual, which means that she must know the people she invites extremely well. When I saw the prompt for today: invite, I immediately thought this yearly tradition.
Specifically, it made me think of how important it is to choose carefully what and who we invite to be a part of our lives. As a suffer of depression I feel this is even more critical because what I spend my time thinking about and the people I spend my time with often affect how I feel. It is essential that I fill my mind with truth and maintain friendships with those who will help me remember truth. Offering someone access to our close circle is a precious gift. Those people we hold most dear have an immense impact on our journey. What we choose to invest our time, energy, and thoughts in also plays an enormous role in how we view our circumstances. Today, I am grateful for the people I call friends and family. I will choose to focus my thoughts on gratitude today.
